The Fey
Summary
Before the Twilight Rebellion, Lunira sought to create little pockets of beautiful chaos in the world. In large tree scattered throughout Caelthys she created doors to pocket dimensions - small worlds within the world. In these pocket dimensions she created wonderful and whimsical creatures ranging from elves and fauns to pixies and hags. These fey settled in different ways but some eventually found their way out of their pocket dimensions into Caelthys and now fey species roam amongst the other inhabitants of the world, albeit not quite as common.
Lunira’s Creation of the Feylands
Before the Twilight Rebellion fractured the heavens Lunira expressed her divine whimsy through creation rather than conquest. Seeking to scatter beauty and unpredictability across Caelthys, she carved doorways into the trunks of ancient, towering trees. Through these “Luniran Gates,” she wove small, self-contained worlds shaped by her imagination and mood. Each began as an experiment: a pocket of dream-logic, emotional magic, and natural wonder meant to contrast the orderly lands shaped by Solarin and the terrestrial gods. These realms became the Feylands.
The Planes of Fey
Each Feyland is a bounded demiplane: an echo of Caelthys overlaid with dreamlike distortion. Time bends—sometimes slowing, sometimes looping—and physical laws obey the emotional state of the land or the creatures within it. Geography rearranges in fractal patterns, creating forests that curve back on themselves, rivers that flow upward, or starlight that grows brighter when one speaks a true name. The boundaries are defined not by distance but by narrative logic: a traveler who follows a story thread—whether curiosity, fear, desire, or a literal trail—may find themselves at the “edge” of a realm, where the world simply folds back into itself unless a path outward exists.
The Luniran Gates serve as anchors; without them, a Feyland risks drifting or collapsing.
Inhabitants
Lunira populated these realms with creatures born from the intersection of nature and dream. Early creations included elves—graceful, inquisitive beings meant to be caretakers and storytellers—and fauns, embodiments of revelry, instinct, and emotional expression. Smaller spirits such as pixies, sprites, and quicklings emerged naturally from the dreamstuff of each realm.
But chaos has a dark side. Hags formed when certain emotions—jealousy, grief, fear—gained shape and personality. Redcaps, boggarts, and other spiteful fey coalesced from neglected memories or stories that were “left unfinished.” As the Feylands grew older, new species emerged by accident, by ritual, or by the will of powerful archfey who seized dominion over their particular pockets.
The Fey in Caelthys
Over time, curious fey stepped beyond their realms, while others were exiled by powerful rulers or fled collapsing pockets caused by Lunira’s downfall. Fey species now live scattered across Caelthys: elves and fauns integrated peacefully in many regions, while sprites and pixies hover near untouched forests or sacred groves.
Their presence is rare but influential. Fey carry the magic of story and emotion with them, often unintentionally disrupting local customs with their unpredictable gifts. Some communities view them as blessings; others see them as temptations toward chaos. In places where Luniran Gates still function, trade and diplomacy exist—though always under layers of etiquette, riddles, and unspoken rules.
